Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is coming in autumn 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but there is no clear word on the PC release. Given the history of Rockstar games and recent industry reports, GTA 6 on PC is likely to come in early 2026. Take-Two Interactive's staggered release policy implies that PC gamers can expect to wait, but this may translate into a smoother experience.

GTA 6 PC release window and Rockstar's strategy

Although Rockstar has not made an official announcement regarding the PC release date of GTA 6, market expectations put it in early 2026. This estimate is supported by Corsair Gaming's VP of Finance Ronald van Veen, who said that the PC version would be released after the console version by a couple of months. This follows Rockstar’s historical pattern—GTA 5 launched on consoles in 2013 but didn’t arrive on PC until 2015, and Red Dead Redemption 2 had a similar delay of about a year.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also confirmed that Rockstar has a platform strategy they employed previously. He intimated that PC is becoming a more vital market but would not confirm the release window. Based on Take-Two's history, the company is likely to focus on console sales before releasing the game on other platforms.

Why Rockstar postpones PC releases and industry insights

Rockstar's staggered release approach has several benefits:
Maximizing revenue: Releasing on consoles initially enables Rockstar to take advantage of initial sales and then stoke interest when the PC release arrives.
Technical improvements: Rockstar's previous PC ports have added features such as ray tracing and increased mod support. The later release makes way for optimization and possible added features.
Market trends: The PC gaming industry has increased exponentially, and market experts predict Take-Two will take advantage of it. With GTA 6 estimated to earn more than $1 billion in pre-orders alone, a high-quality PC release could further enhance revenues.
GTA 6's PC launch is eagerly awaited, but following previous patterns and industry intelligence, players will need to wait until January 2026. Take-Two's strategy guarantees a refined experience while harvesting maximum revenue across platforms. Although no official announcement has been made, it is anticipated that Rockstar will adhere to its decided roadmap, launching GTA 6 on PC after the console launch.
