Sasuke could be dubbed one of the strongest characters from the Naruto Shippuden universe. From being a cold teenager to becoming the shadow hokage, Sasuke's journey has been one of the most intriguing ones.
His journey saw a lot of ups and downs, in which he got multiple powers and lost a lot of them. One such instance is when Sasuke got his Rinnegan. Yes, after Nagato, Madara, and Obito, Sasuke became the first one to wield the Rinnegan. Moving forward, we will discuss how Sasuke got the Rinnegan and how and when he lost it.
Sasuke and the saga of Rinnegan
At the time when the fourth great shinobi war was going on, Sasuke was beaten badly by Madara Uchiha when the Ghost of Uchiha became the Jinchuriki of the Ten Tails. In the unconscious state, Sasuke was visited by the God of Shinobi's spirit. Hagoromo here only revealed that Sasuke and Naruto are the reincarnations of his sons Indra and Ashura. Keeping all this in mind, Hagoromo divided his powers between Naruto and Sasuke.
And Hagoromo's chakra triggered the Rinnegan activation in Sasuke's left eye. And yes, the Rinnegan of Sasuke was unique, and it had different abilities as well. Sasuke's Rinnegan allowed him to use Amenotejikara, which is a space-time ninjutsu that lets him switch places with people and objects. He also had the ability to open portals for different dimensions, along with advanced techniques, Chibaku Tensei and Limbo.
In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Sasuke lost his Rinnegan against Boruto in a battle when he was possessed by Momoshiki. This shows us the shifting of the power centre from Sasuke and Naruto to the next generations. All in all, in the time when he had the Rinnegan, Sasuke only used it to defend Konoha and stay honest to his role of Shadow Hokage, which could have been the story of Madara if he had not gone rogue.
