Kerala, known for its discerning cinema audience and a stronghold of Mohanlal’s fan base, has once again proven its loyalty. From a thunderous opening day collection of Rs 14.07 crore, the film sustained momentum over the weekend and showed remarkable hold during weekdays. Notably, the film saw an uptick on Day 4 and Day 5, with Rs 11.02 crore and Rs 10.52 crore respectively—numbers that most films would envy even on opening days. With this Rs 75.8 crore haul, L2: Empuraan now stands as the fifth-highest grosser of all time in Kerala, leapfrogging over mega-hits like Manjummel Boys (Rs 72.02 crore), Prabhas and SS Rajamouli Baahubali 2 (Rs 72.00 crore), and Prithviraj’s own Lucifer (Rs 66.10 crore). This puts the film just behind Fahadh Faasil 's Aavesham (Rs 76.10 crore), Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life (Rs 79.28 crore), Pulimurugan (Rs 85.10 crore), and the state’s all-time highest grosser, 2018 (Rs 89.40 crore).
What's impressive is that L2: Empuraan has achieved this in only 10 days. If the current trend continues, the film is poised to surpass Aavesham and possibly even The Goat Life to become the third or second-highest grosser in Kerala box office history. The success of L2: Empuraan is not just a win for Mohanlal, but also for Prithviraj as a director. The duo’s combination, already celebrated in Lucifer, has now reached new heights with this sequel, and the film’s performance is a testament to the ever-growing appetite for well-mounted Malayalam cinema rooted in local ethos but crafted with pan-Indian ambition. As the film marches into its second week, all eyes are now on whether it can challenge Pulimurugan or even 2018 to claim the top spot. On the other hand, Mohanlal is all set for his next film 'Thudarum' which is directed by Tharun Moorthy. Mohanlal's previous outing was his directorial debut film 'Barroz'.
